Introduction and Performance
The Oppo A83 (2018) is an upgraded variant of the A83 as it packs more RAM and comes with more storage space. The smartphone is expected to compete with the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and Vivo V7. There is no fingerprint scanner on the device but the handset ships with the facial recognition feature that allows users to unlock the smartphone just by looking at the screen. Also, the rounded edges on all sides aid better handling of the smartphone.


Under the hood, the Oppo A83 (2018) is armed with an octa-core MediaTek chipset which is coupled with 4GB of RAM that ensures a lag-free and flawless smartphone experience. The octa-core chipset is also optimised to handle multitasking.


Platform and Connectivity
The Oppo A83 (2018) is based on the proprietary Color OS 3.2 wrapped under the Android 7.1 Nougat operating system out of the box and is bundled with all the options that were seen on the Oppo A83. The options include dual SIM support, GPS, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, 4G with VoLTE, and a microUSB 2.0 port.


Camera and Storage
Unfortunately, the 2018 variant of the Oppo A83 too misses out on the dual rear camera setup and comes with a standard 13-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter. The rear image sensor aids low-light photos and videos thanks to the LED flash at the back. To support selfies and video calls, there is an 8-megapixel secondary lens on board.
In terms of storage, the device is equipped with 64GB of onboard storage space which can be expanded further using a microSD card up to 256GB. One has to rely on the Hybrid SIM slot for expansion.


Display and Battery
The Oppo A83 (2018) flaunts a 5.7-inch HD+ display which is kept unaltered. The screen has warm colour reproduction and reproduces vivid images. Outdoor legibility under sunlight is decent.
The device is fuelled by a non-removable Li-Ion 3,180mAh cell which is expected to hold up for a decent amount of time for a moderate user.
